We decided to take a spontaneous Monday Night Camping trip this week. We also bought the top rated camping showers, so we can shower every couple days. A certain little hedgehog was quite delighted with the idea of a transportable hedgehog nest.

I managed to forget to pack my toothbrush, hiking boots, flashlight and field guide. We made do, and took lots of pictures of wildflowers to look up when we got home. These ones are Salmonberry flowers. Edit: They’re actually Thimbleberry flowers! Salmonberries have pink flowers. I knew I bought that field guide for a reason.

We went for a wonderful long hike, and took turns carrying little people when their legs got tired. Made a 6km loop altogether.

When I woke up in the morning I discovered two things: 1) it was raining, 2) Tom had woken up earlier than everyone else and managed to put up the tarp and start the fire singlehandedly. There really is an art to the perfect tarp, and this is a fine example.

A brief moment of sun lured us down to the water, but by the time we ate lunch and organized swimsuits it was raining again. This did not deter Beatrice one bit.

Here’s hoping for many more camping trips this summer. Next time I’m bringing my flashlight for sure.

Looks like fun despite the rain :) I can’t wait to take my girls camping…though I suspect we will stick to back yard sleepovers for now.
Happy WW! I have a linky on my blog, please pop over an dlink up

It was fun, even though we got rained on. With the rainy spring we’ve had I’m starting to accept that we’ve just got to get out despite the rain. Cabin fever in June is no good.
I added my link – thanks!
Beatrice looks super happy with the trip! I must say I’m really impressed with Tom’s sweetness to get up early and get the tarp and fire all ready. What a nice present!
I need to learn how to camp. Apparently first priority is making a good packing list…

Yes, a good packing list is a smart idea. We’ve got a couple of rubbermaid tubs that store and transport all our camping things, so it’s easy to assume everything is in there when something has quite possibly been pillaged and left elsewhere. (like the flashlight). The toothbrush was just me being a spacecase – I packed up everyone else’s toothbrush but left mine on the counter. DOH.
