:: right now ::

A week into our adventure in Ireland and I’ve got so much to say but not a lot of time to write it down. So, a list! In the SouleMama style. Right now I am:

ilen river estuary

::watching the estuary outside the kitchen window in our holiday accomodation.

::loving how it changes with the time of day, fishing boat traffic, weather, wind, cloud, sun and moonbeams.

::thinking about living out of the city. A lot.

toddler climbing on a farm gate

::enjoying all the little indulgences that are distinctly Irish or that are just unavailable in Canada; peat fires, KerryGold butter, Innocent smoothies, smoked Gubbeen cheese.

::spending time with friends and family.

multi-family art

::grateful for everything that came together this year to make this trip possible.

::wondering how it can be possible that the month is half over already.

::remembering the years I lived here, especially as we drive down the road. Some things haven’t changed a bit, and in other places there are huge new building developments, some of which have been abandoned partway through due to economic deflation. Certain stretches of road trigger memories I haven’t thought of in years – oh, that’s the spot where our friends had a terrible motorcycle accident, there’s where we went to that party in the old mill, there’s where Louis got lost down the country lane.

irish country lane

::watching cows graze on the hillside, cormorants dive in the river and bunnies hop across our patio.

::enjoying the simplicity that comes from living out of a suitcase.

::cherishing each moment. It has been a long time since Beatrice was born and we moved back to Canada, but I’m here in Ireland right now. Sometimes it feels as if I’d never left.

      Thanks! I wish I could write more – there are so many stories waiting to be told. :)

    Beautiful! I want to know where you are…. It’s been years and years and years since I’ve been to Ireland: the Celtic tiger came and left in the years since then.

      We were in Cork, where much of our extended family lives, and where Tom and I lived between 2002-2006. It really is beautiful. When I left the Celtic tiger was in full swing, but it’s definitely well gone now. There are lots of abandoned building projects, and architects can’t find any work.
